How to Use Ledger Live with DigiByte (DGB) - nowakdonte/Ledger-Device-Tutorials-2024 GitHub Wiki
Introduction
DigiByte (DGB) is a fast, secure, and decentralized blockchain focused on cybersecurity, payments, and smart contracts. If you hold DGB tokens, securing them with a Ledger hardware wallet ensures maximum protection by keeping your private keys offline.
While Ledger Live does not natively support DigiByte (DGB), you can still manage your DGB holdings securely by connecting your Ledger device to a compatible wallet like DigiByte Electrum or Coinomi.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to connect your Ledger to a DigiByte-compatible wallet and manage your DGB tokens safely.
Please download the last update of Ledger Live Application:
1.Ledger Live for Windows 10/11
2.Ledger Live for MAC
3.Ledger Live for Android
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have: ✅ A Ledger Nano S, Nano X, or Nano S Plus ✅ The latest version of Ledger Live installed ✅ The DigiByte Electrum Wallet or Coinomi Wallet (Ledger-compatible) ✅ Your Ledger device initialized and updated with the latest firmware
Step 1: Set Up Your Ledger Device
- Initialize Your Ledger (if new)
- Follow the on-screen setup instructions.
- Write down your 24-word recovery phrase and store it securely.
- Install Ledger Live & Update Firmware
- Download Ledger Live from the official website.
- Install and open the app.
- Connect your Ledger device and update its firmware if needed.
Step 2: Install the DigiByte (DGB) App on Your Ledger
Since DigiByte is a UTXO-based blockchain (similar to Bitcoin), you’ll need the Bitcoin app on your Ledger to manage DGB.
- Open Ledger Live and go to “Manager”.
- Connect and unlock your Ledger device.
- Search for “Bitcoin (BTC)” in the app catalog.
- Click “Install” to add the Bitcoin app to your Ledger.
(Note: The Bitcoin app is used because DigiByte is Bitcoin-compatible, and Ledger does not have a dedicated DGB app.)
Step 3: Connect Ledger to a DigiByte-Compatible Wallet
Option 1: Using DigiByte Electrum (Recommended for Desktop Users)
- Download DigiByte Electrum
- Visit the official DigiByte Electrum GitHub page: https://github.com/DigiByte-Core/DigiByte-Electrum.
- Download the wallet for your OS (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
- Open DigiByte Electrum
- Launch the wallet and select “Standard Wallet”.
- Choose “Use a hardware device” and select “Ledger”.
- Connect Your Ledger Device
- Plug in your Ledger and unlock it.
- Open the Bitcoin app on your Ledger.
- The wallet will detect your Ledger and display your DGB balance.
- Access Your DGB Wallet
- Once connected, you can view your balance, send, and receive DGB securely.
Option 2: Using Coinomi Wallet (Mobile Users)
- Download Coinomi Wallet
- Install Coinomi from the official website or your device’s app store.
- Connect Your Ledger
- Open Coinomi and go to “Settings” > “Hardware Wallets”.
- Select “Ledger” and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Open the Bitcoin app on your Ledger when prompted.
- Manage Your DGB
- Once connected, you can securely store and transact DGB.
Step 4: Send and Receive DigiByte (DGB) with Ledger
Receiving DGB
- Open DigiByte Electrum or Coinomi Wallet.
- Click “Receive” to generate a DGB address.
- Verify the address on your Ledger screen (to prevent phishing).
- Share this address with the sender.
Sending DGB
- Open your wallet and click “Send”.
- Enter the recipient’s DGB address.
- Input the amount and adjust fees if needed.
- Confirm the transaction on your Ledger device.
- Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the DigiByte blockchain.
Step 5: Secure Your DigiByte (DGB) Holdings
- Never share your 24-word recovery phrase.
- Always verify transaction details on your Ledger screen.
- Keep your Ledger firmware and wallet software updated.
Conclusion
While Ledger Live does not natively support DigiByte (DGB), you can securely manage your DGB tokens by connecting your Ledger to DigiByte Electrum or Coinomi Wallet. This ensures your private keys remain offline while allowing full control over your funds.
