(TODO: quite a bit of this is already in the manual. clean that up and "manualise" the rest -- Mark)
tools needed for assembling the lasersaur
- M3, M4, M5 hex screwdriver bit
- multimeter
- soldering iron
- hot glue gun (for sticking wiring into T-slots)
- heat gun (for heat-shrink tubing)
- wire cutter/stripper.
- metric wrenches (not sure what sizes).
- steel ruler with metric scale.
- drill, drill bits (for drilling the panelling mount holes and a large bit for the hole in the equipment bay wall).
- tin-snips (for making holes in the case for the smoke extraction system)
parts not included in the BOM that should really be
- aluminium honeycomb
- specifications? I've seen http://www.plascore.com/aluminum-honeycomb-pcga-xr-3003.php and http://www.plascore.com/aluminum-honeycomb-pamg-xr-5052.php
- extraction fan(s).
- (optionally) filtering system.
- 6" or 8" ducting, elbow connectors, panel connectors.
- air-assist pump (suggest Airbrush compressor)
- Steve Baker uses http://www.harborfreight.com/16-hp-58-psi-oilless-airbrush-compressor-60329.html
- EU alternative:
- Thomas Vakuumpumpe/Kompressor Typ 2660
- with a muffler on the vacuum side: https://www.landefeld.de/gruppe/de/schalldaempfer-mit-stecknippel-/IQSSD40
- inside an open wooden box like https://groups.google.com/group/lasersaur/attach/a0b100d3abedac4e/IMG_4384.jpg?part=0.1.1&authuser=0
- directly connected to the air assist, without any air assist valve in between
- sturdy/heavy table (we should add instructions for building one yourself - it's easy!)
- (optional) rubber floor decoupling mat 1800x1200x20mm (for sound dampening)
tools to help safely operate the lasersaur
- (optional, not really needed) laser safety glasses
- (optional, handy) internal webcam (might require internal LED lighting; ideally IP cam)
- (optional) thermometer temperature gun
- CO2 fire extinguisher (NOT dry powder which will wreck your lasersaur!)
- nomex fire blanket.
- squirt bottles with water (for very small fires!).
- large-hose shop-vac for vacuuming little plywood 'chads' out of the bed of the machine
set of spare parts and a cleaning kit
- cotton buds and 90% alcohol for cleaning lens and mirrors.
- canned air for a quick blast on lens and mirrors between cuts.
- moist "bathroom wipes" (NOT baby wipes!) for cleaning the rails.
- pressure washer and industrial degreaser for cleaning the grid.
- make-it-yourself focus gauge and alignment targets.
other supplies
- masking tape (to tape plywood to the bed of the machine when it's slightly warped)
- 3M low-tack spray-mount adhesive (to temporarily glue cloth to a sheet of plywood when we're laser-cutting cloth or paper to avoid it getting sucked into the vent system or popping up and sticking to the cutting head)
