The purpose of this page is to list alternative suppliers for builders located in Europe.

Beware that if you use these suppliers, you must be careful to ensure that the pieces you but are the correct ones - on the other hand you can save a great deal compared to the "official" suppliers.

Extrusions

Motedis offers extrusions cut to length, and have excellent service. Use the I-type slot 5 version.

Caveats:

• Motedis only does straight cuts. You will have to make a few 45 degree cuts yourself (but those do not need to be very accurate).
• Likewise, you will have to drill holes and tap a few pieces.
• Motedis does not stock black extrusions and brackets. You will have to paint them yourself (powdercoating).
• The angle brackets for the slot 5 extrusions are really intended for M4 screws. It is possible to use M5 (as I did), but there is not much wiggle room.
• M5 x 10 screws are too long for the Motedis slots. Use M5 x 8 instead.

Electronic

When ordering limit switches from alternate suppliers (e.g. AliExpress), note that NO and NC can be defined in two different ways: Either as when the magnet is near the switch, or when it is not. Most two-wire switches listed on AliExpress (regardless of whether they are listed as "NO" or "NC") are "NC" as defined in the Lasersaur BOM, i.e. they form a connection when the magnet is NOT near the switch. This type is not usable for the door switches. To be safe, order a type with three wires.

Optics

Optics like these are good value, but note that

• you need to be a bit creative to mount them properly in the Lasersaur
• the included mirrors are of the K9 type (coated glass), which will not withstand laser power above 40W for very long. So make sure to replace them with molybdenum or copper mirrors.

For laser and PSU, I used this supplier. The tube was packed very safely in rigid foam blocks inside a sturdy cardboard box, which was again enclosed in a plywood box.
