Spectrus Kill Team Datasheet Changes - normanthesquid/wh40k-fundapocalypse GitHub Wiki

The Indomitor Kill Team was created using the Reiver and Infiltrator Apocalypse datasheets as a template.

The base profile we reused from the Infiltrator Squad datasheet.

The "Deathwatch Marksman Bolt Carbine" was adapted froim the Infiltrator squad using standard Apoc Deathwatchification - Add 6".

Since the new 9e kill teams require you to take 5 normal models, then you can add 5 more special models, we will change up the rules a little bit - you will only be able to take the extra weapon options if you bring a 10 man squad.

The Veterans datasheet has a small "bug" where you get extra shots, since the Deathwatch Boltguns are A:User, even though 4/10 guys are also carrying heavy things. We are going to preserve that bug for the "Deathwatch Marksman Bolt Carbine" even though Incursors bring their own weapons - Deathwatch are just that badass.

We chose to ignore the Reiver Combat Blade Melee option - if there are 5 Reivers, then it would make sense to reuse that profile, but mixing up the model choices makes the math messy, so we just skipped it. Apocalypse really isn't the place for that kind of model by model wargear, anyways.

Rough summary of the Wargear options, using the Veterans datasheet as a template:

  • This unit is equipped with Close Combat Weapons
  • This unit is equipped with Deathwatch Marksman Bolt Carbines
  • If this unit contains 10 models, This unit can be equipped with up to 5 Specialist Operators
    • Incursor - Adds Multi-Spectrum Gunsights and Haywire Mine - +1 PL
      • This should only apply to Incursor models. shrug
      • We didn't make these options cost 2 PL, because there doesn't appear to be any additional PL tax on the Incursor datasheet
      • We will only charge for this once, no matter how many Reivers are added
    • Reiver - Adds Terror Troops - +1 PL
      • We will only charge for this once, no matter how many Reivers are added
    • Eliminator with Bolt Sniper - +1 PL
    • Eliminator with Las-fusil - +1 PL

Note that while the Veterans in the Proteus Kill Team have improved Ld, the Spectrus Kill Team does not.

Deathwatch Heavy Bolt Rifle

We followed the pattern on the Veteran and Intercessor squads - stat line of the Rapid Fire version, range of the Heavy version.

Bolt Sniper Rifle

The Bolt Sniper Rifle has 3 different profiles, which make things tricky. We have observed a general rule of "more shots = better SAP, sometimes better SAT, sometimes not", so instead of getting bogged down in details, we are just going to use the Bolt Sniper Rifle profile as a baseline, and make reduce the SAP by 1 to reflect it going from A:User, meaning 3, to A:1

Interestingly, this weapon is Small Arms instead of Heavy in Apocalypse. Unclear why.

Las-fusil

We would have liked to do the same thing for the Las-fusil, except the Las-Fusil profile in Apoc doesn't make any sense. For a squad worth of them, they have the same Shots as a heavy bolter, and better S, AP, and D. You would expect their profile in Apocalypse to be all around better, or at least the same for SAP, since shot count matters a lot for SAP.

The Heavy Bolter's SAP/SAT are 7+/9+, while the Eliminator Squad Las-Fusil's are 9+/6+. The SAT being better makes sense, but the SAP being 2 worse doesn't make any sense at all. If we then degrade it by one more point due to fewer shots, we get 10+/6+ per weapon.

In 9e, the Las Fusil and the Meltagun profiles are VERY close - off only by 1 AP and .5 damage on average. The Meltagun in Apoc is 11+/7+. This suggests that the formula may actually be "1 better SAP per shot, 1 better SAT per 2 shots". We may redo some of the general analysis later to see if that is the case. Maybe it will make Heavy Bolters make more sense, too. For now, we are just going to reuse the Meltagun profile, because our brains hurt.

Interestingly, this weapon is Small Arms instead of Heavy in Apocalypse. Unclear why.

Infiltrators and Deep Strike

A close reading of the 9e Spectrus Kill Team rules raises an important question: Can Spectrus Kill Teams ever use Concealed Positions if they include a Reiver? Eliminators, Infiltrators, and Incursors all have Concealed Positions, but Reivers do not, and the Concealed Positions rules state that every model in the unit must have the rule.

We chose to allow the Spectrus Kill Team to have the Infiltrators ability as part of it's base profile, and to also be able to take Grav-chutes to get Deep Strike, cause it just seemed cooler that way.

Power Level

The Power Level math here is a little complicated.

The Infiltrator Squad is 8/14 PL. This appears to be 6 + 6 + 1 + 1: 6 per 5 models, 1 for Infiltrators, and 1 for Omni-Scramblers. We discuss PL taxes like this a little more in depth on the Death Company page.

The Veterans datasheet is 1 more PL base than the Tactical Squad per 5 models, probably because the guns get their extra 6" range, so we will consider our cost per 5 models to be 7.

That means the Spectrus Kill Team PL should be 7 + 7 + 1 + 1, or 9/16 PL.
