Death Company Intercessors Datasheet Changes - normanthesquid/wh40k-fundapocalypse GitHub Wiki

The Death Company Intercessors datasheet was made using our Veteran Intercessor Squad as a base.

The only differences are the Death Company keyword, 1 worse Ld, and the Feel No Pain, which has implications for PL.

There are a number of abilities that appear to cost 1 PL, but only for the entire datasheet, and not for each profile.

Normal datasheets, like the Intercessor Squad or Tactical Squad, cost X per Y models, and it scales directly. For intercessors, it is 6 PL for 5 models, and 12 PL for 10. For Chaos Space Marines, it is clearly 4 PL for 5 models - the unit can have 5/10/15/20 models, for 4/8/12/16 PL, very logical.

The Death Company datasheet is 6 PL for 5 models, so you would expect the 5/10/15 options to be 6/12/18 PL, but they are not - they are 6/11/16. This suggests the math is actually 5 PL per 5 models, then 1 extra PL for something mysterious.

By looking at multiple datasheets, our theory is that the Ignore Damage(6+) rule incurs a 1 time charge of 1 PL that is added to the overall cost. Other rules that appear to work this way

  • Deep Strike: The Terminator Squad is 11 PL for 10 models, but only 21 for 10 models, suggesting the math is 10 + 10 + 1.
  • Terror Troops: The Reiver Squad is 6 PL for 5 models, but only 11 for 10 models, suggesting the math is 5 + 5 + 1
  • Deep Strike + Terror Troops: Raptors are 5/8/11 PL for 5/10/15 models, suggesting the math is 3 + 3 + 3 + 1 + 1

The Raptor example brings up an interesting corollary regarding Jump Packs: they do more than just give Deep Strike, and you pay for it. Death Company pays 2PL per 5 models to have jump packs, not just a 1 time payment. This is inconsistent, though - Space Marine Assault Squads pay a flat 2PL per 5 models for jump packs.

We say "Appear to work this way" because it is not consistent. Assault Terminators are 9/18 PL for 5/10 models, even though they logically should match the Terminator Squad. They are able to take Storm Shields, however, which also just have a flat cost that doesn't scale with unit size.

The most absurd example of this inconsistency is on the Death Company datasheet - their Death Company Weapons, which are EXTREMELY good for Apocalypse infantry, are a flat, one time cost. That is insanely good, since it is an x3 weapon.

If this rule was consistently implied, it would be a good thing for the speed of the game, in our opinion - the more incentive you have to make fewer, bigger units, the faster the game should go. Too bad it isn't consistent.

In the end, we chose to make the PL for the Death Company Intercessors follow the general pattern: 7 + 7 + 1
