Introduction
OBS VNC Source is a VNC viewer integrated into OBS Studio. You can use this plugin to stream a desktop on your external computer.
Pros and Cons
Compared to other protocol such as NDI, VNC has such benefits.
- Pros to use OBS VNC Source
- Lightweight in terms of CPU usage on both server and client side.
- MacOS has built-in VNC Server.
- Small traffic for static contents such as text and images.
- Built-in interaction to control mouse and keyboard.
- No accumulated lags, just rendering when the new frame arrives.
- Cons
- Audio is not supported in VNC.
- Quality is not stable. If network connection becomes slow, quality will be reduced.
- Latency is not stable. The frame will be displayed as it arrives to the viewer. There could be a jitter.
If you are sharing movies or graphical games, I don't recommend VNC.
