Overview

This week the main focus for my team and I was preparing for our Beta Presentation, which took place on March 19, 2021. Before the presentation, we had a group meeting and discussed what needed to be done. During our meeting, we experimented with how and where to place the models that we made and what we should mention in our presentation. Afterwards, we all individually recorded our voice lines, and recorded footage of our application running. I was responsible for putting the Beta Presentation video together, so my main focus for this week was completing that on time.

The Beta Presentation can be viewed here.

There have not been many major changes since the Beta Presentation, but one thing that I did touch up on was the placement of objects in the scene. I added some more trees to the environment and changed the colours of some trees to closer resemble the painting I was following. Other than that, I was very excited to see the progress of the other groups as well.

Challenges

One of the challenges we faced was deciding how we could make our experience a bit longer. Our plan is to colour all objects of a specific colour when that colour was found in the scene, but we were worried that doing so might shorten the experience since many of the objects have similar colours. As a team we thought it would be best to include some sort of fun fact / info board in the level as well, to provide some more context on the painting and artist.

Successes

I think our Beta Presentation was a success! We finished and submitted our video on time, and I think we have made significant progress since the Alpha Presentation.

Total hours spent this week: 6

Next steps

The next step for me is to import and position the models into the level. Since Will, our main programmer is still working on tweaking some game mechanics, I will position and scale the models in their correct places. Additionally, Jenny will do the same with the 2nd level that she modelled. Jenny and I are also responsible for creating a map mesh to define where in the scene the user is able to walk.
