Overview

After tossing around a few ideas, our team decided on creating a 3D VR Environment where the player's goal is to restore colour and life to paintings done by The Group of Seven, a group of Canadian artists. In order to remain within a reasonable scope, we decided on recreating the environments of three paintings in 3D (each by a different artist of the group), and have decided that we will add more paintings (levels) if time permits. We have stored and saved the names and artists for the reference photos that we found.

For single players, the player's goal is to simply restore the painting, either by finding missing colours or missing pieces of the artwork. If there are two players, Player A will guide Player B in finding key items, which introduces Asymmetric Gameplay when there are two players.

Additionally, I created several tasks for our project's Kanban board. This will allow us to have an accurate backlog of all the major tasks that we must complete, such as documentation or presentations.

Challenges

I think one of the biggest challenges that we faced was the uncertainty of one of our group members. She was having a very hard time lately, and was thinking of taking a break from university. She ended up following through with this decision, so our group is now left with three members instead of four. Luckily, we became aware of this early on in the project pipeline, so I'm sure we will still be able to achieve what we have planned so far.

Successes

One of our successes for this week was deciding on a theme that addresses the question “What individuals or communities have inspired and/or changed Canada?”. Our goal is to educate our audience on the artists in The Group of Seven, as they explore the 3D environments of their famous paintings. We also finalized our roles and split up the work for the time being; this means that each group member should always have something to do.

Total hours spent this week: 3-4

Next Steps

The next step in the design process would be to create the 3D environment itself. For our next scrum meeting, I am hoping to have at least a rough structure of the 3D environment that I am responsible for. However I will strive to add as much detail to the models as quickly as possible, since I am aware that I am also responsible for UV mapping and texturing the models. Additionally, we must begin working on our RFP document which is due on February 11, 2021.
