Health - nolanhergert/notes GitHub Wiki
Not sure where my old health expenses went... the table. Still on old page?! Weird. https://nolanhergert.github.io/notes_old/everyday/hsa.html
- Providence EOBs: https://myprovidence.healthtrioconnect.com/app/index.page
- GoodRx and Ulta Lab tests are low-cost ways of getting common things online
- Ulta lab tests were about $10 cheaper than providence. (20% or so). Not that much, and providence is in-network for me.
- Also yearly non-hdhp providence was $680 w/ deductible of $150, whereas HDHP was $1400 before deductible was reached. I'm still better off (based on history) with a HDHP. They tend to come in spurts of lots, then very little. But if I was using it all the time, then it'd be better to do PCP (non-HDHP)
Lasik?
- Is it safe to do with -8? Need to ask
- Will I still need reading glasses for up close work later on in life?

End of life
Doctors don't want heroic measures (CPR, life support) because the outcomes are very unlikely and very uncomfortable. You probably don't want them either, even though they won't tell you that because it sounds weird.
Radzik
I am noticing that I am even more sensitive to sugar, salt, and now the taste of chlorinated water once I remove them from my diet. Interesting, I think it's a good thing too.

Rosacea
Meeting with Dr. May 2023
It is just your body. Your skin is oily (not related to diet) so it plugs more. 100mg dose once a day is not antimicrobial,
Has nothing to do with diet or cleanliness. Maybe additionally irritated by pressure from sleeping on that side of face.
Triple cream is good indefinitely. Take doxycycline every day until triple cream comes in, then start lowering it to maybe once every few days.
Previous
Previous prescription was doxycycline monohydrate and some of metro cream.
Going with doxycycline again at a super low dose (20mg). It is way below antibiotic levels, but it breaks up lipase, supposedly. Although that's not really what I read.
"The tetracyclines have the ability to down-regulate production of proinflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 and tumor necrosis factor alpha. They also inhibit proteolytic enzymes produced by inflammatory cells that degrade collagen, thereby decreasing inflammation that is seen during the inflammatory response in rosacea. 26 Tetracyclines are most effective against PPR; however, relapse rates are high if they are used as monotherapy without a topical agent."

Questions for Dr. Janoff
- Shouldn't I get an MRI/CT scan soon to see if it spread?
Sugar Accelerates Cancer Growth?
Mayo: No. But don't abuse it.
But giving more sugar to cancer cells doesn't make them grow faster. Likewise, depriving cancer cells of sugar doesn't make them grow more slowly.

Resuscitation
I couldn't find the original article, but this one does a good job of doing a similar summary of the findings: https://io9.gizmodo.com/your-doctor-probably-has-a-dnr-heres-why-you-should-co-1702556735.
This Quora article has some great insights too: https://www.quora.com/Why-do-many-doctors-make-DNR-do-not-resuscitate-tattoos, particularly the frustrating story by Johan Combrinck.
I'm a little skeptical of the low likelihood of CPR working, but what do I know :)
It looks like tattooing a DNR on your chest isn't sufficient though, unless you can make sure that there's no ambiguity there (you forgot to remove the tattoo, etc).
