Welcome to the Sunflow Open Source Rendering System exporter for Blender wiki!

Sunflow is an open source rendering system for photo-realistic image synthesis. It is written in Java and built around a flexible ray tracing core and an extensible object-oriented design. Sunflow installation instructions can be found out from sunflow web page .

As this Wikipedia page says

The current status of the project is unknown, but the last announcement on the program's official page was made in 2007.

Seven years can make big difference in cg industry. We can even consider sunflow as obsolete. But still it works, and not just works it works nice, even though it lacks render layers, volumetric, new render algorithms etc. It is still used in several java based application as an addon for rendering out graphs, data diagrams etc. Christopher Kulla has made us available a wonderful render engine, which is still available to us free of cost and open sourced. As blender has moved on and become stable allowing different mature render engines to be integrated seamlessly, as a fellow member of this community, We feel like not to orphan this beautiful application, that is reason why we choose sunflow to render out our little in house animation. Initially we had no planning to make this available publically so we wrote what came first to our minds, as a fact this exporter was not written in a professional style, or it is not even a good example to be followed for writing an exporter. It is more like our experiment to the blender exporter framework. It is really raw. We are releasing it because we thought someone may find it useful. We are planning a rewrite after we finishes our little animation and fixing general bugs.

Since this is an experimental version you may find lots and lots of bugs in this exporter and you can help me out by putting a bug report. And also many of the things may not work as you expected in the previous versions (2.49 and 2.53) of the exporter, so any work flow corrections or changes in default values etc can also be pointed out by filing a bug report.

Feature requests are also welcome.

Happy rendering.
