Sign in, Briefing, Logistics

We'll be signing in at 0730 near South of Westwind Barn. Be forewarned: parking may be exciting. Some people will be meeting at the Fire Station beforehand to carpool. There will be no carpooling; we will just meet at the CERT trailer.

There will be coffee and snacks for folks who get there early.

The only bathrooms are near Westwind barn. Plan accordingly.

Please sign in on the 211 form so we can keep track of folks.

The briefing will be at 0745; we'll be announcing any last minute changes or re-assignments.

Folks will be be leaving for their assignments at around 0800; the race starts at 0900 for the 5k and 10k runs, and 1030 for the walk. The race is expected be over by 1130.

We'll be doing a debriefing back at the CERT trailer after the race. Please sign out before leaving, either verbally over the radio or in person on the 211 form.

What to expect

Everyone will have an assigned location. Please use this location as your tactical call sign (for example: Point 7). Don't forget to add your FCC call sign when necessary.

Please check in with Net Control before leaving the briefing area to confirm your radio works and is programmed properly.

Please check in again when you arrive at your assigned location.

There will be periodic health and welfare checks (every 15-30 minutes). If you haven't heard anything in a while: check your radio to see if you are off-channel, or worse: stuck in transmit mode (FT-60 users: did you bring your rubber band?). If you can't reach Net Control try the alternate frequencies or send a text to Net Control (see Frequencies section)

For training purposes: its a good idea to try and keep a communications log on a 214 or 311 form. Bring a clipboard to make writing easier.

There will be a pair of folks doing a sweep behind the runners. When they pass please relay that info to Net Control. After the race passes you can check out with Net Control, either checking out and going home or returning to the race start.

There will be a debriefing at the end for those who return to the start.

Some runners will want to know far they are and where the next water stop is. Please check the map and be prepared to answer them.

In case of emergencies: call 911. There will be paramedics near the race, but they are only dispatched via 911. After you are done with 911 please notify Net Control.
