Getting Started

Welcome to Office2KDP - the Excel-based publishing toolkit for self-publishers and indie authors using Amazon KDP.

This guide will help you get up and running in just a few minutes.


1. Download the Tool

You can download the latest version from the official GitHub repository: https://github.com/multiplicit-com/Office2KDP/releases

Always use the official release to ensure macro safety and feature completeness.


2. Open in Microsoft Excel

Office2KDP is a .xlsm (macro-enabled) Excel workbook. When opening:

  • Make sure macros are enabled
  • If prompted, click “Enable Content” or “Enable Macros”
  • Use Office 2016 or newer for best compatibility

3. Configure Your Book Settings

Head to the Your Document tab and select:

  • Trim size (with presets)
  • Page count
  • Margin and gutter preferences
  • Header/footer presets
  • Cover DPI and file type

The settings will automatically update the output sections.


4. Use the Output Tabs

Depending on your publishing format, go to:

  • MS Word (.docx) for Word manuscript formatting
  • MS Word (.pdf) if you're exporting to PDF from Word
  • Cover to calculate cover dimensions including bleed and spine

Each tab includes calculated values and a visual layout overview.


5. Generate Your Word File

Click the "Create Word Template" button to generate a properly formatted .docx file. Start writing your manuscript directly in the exported file.
