Homepage Cards: External Media Guidelines - mozilla/protocol GitHub Wiki
External Media Guidelines
To provide the best possible user experience, maintain security, and keep the homepage cards from breaking, the following guidelines apply to external media on cards on the Mozilla.org homepage:
Video
To maintain privacy, security, and the quality of captioning, embedded video should be self-hosted by Mozilla. In some cases, we will grant exceptions for embedded YouTube videos, but recommend every effort be taken to avoid YouTube embeds. Please contact the Mozilla.org team for full requirements for videos to be placed on homepage cards.
For security reasons, videos from Vimeo, DailyMotion, or any platform other than YouTube cannot be embedded within Mozilla.org homepage cards.
Text
In order to maintain content quality, consistency, and security, we cannot link directly to a non-Mozilla article, blog post, or other text-based media on Mozilla.org homepage cards. We recommend deploying a blog post or article hosted by Mozilla.org describing and linking to the text-based media to be featured.
Audio
We cannot embed audio files directly from Soundcloud, Libsyn, or any other player. However, we may be able to host the audio file ourselves. Please contact the Mozilla.org team if you would like to have an audio file embedded on a Mozilla.org homepage card.
Images
We cannot embed image files directly from Imgur, Flicker, or any other embedded image platform.
Animated Images/Animated GIFs
Animated GIFs or other images cannot be embedded from services like GIPHY. We may, however, be able to host the raw file itself. Please contact the Mozilla.org team if you would like to do this.
