Before a device can be added to a Home in HomeKit, the device needs to be first connected to your network and a HomeKit setup code needs to be configured (via web interface see here).

• Some obvious combinations like 111-11-111 are explicitly disallowed by Apple and will not be accepted.
• Note that code is not stored on the device in plain text and it is not possible to read what the current setting is.

Now that your device is attached to your network, you need to setup a HomeKit setup code, Pick any code, see here for more information.
