Value Propostion
Our mobile application uniquely combats food waste in Bogotá by connecting consumers with local businesses offering surplus or near-expiration food, providing a personalized and convenient experience that sets us apart from existing solutions. Unlike other platforms, our app offers advanced filtering options based on distance, cuisine type, dietary restrictions, and price range, coupled with real-time notifications to ensure users never miss out on high-quality, discounted food deals. By facilitating the sale of near-expiration food, we help businesses reduce waste while offering consumers affordable meal options, all through a user-friendly interface that includes accessibility features like screen reader compatibility and multilingual support. Our solution not only reduces food waste but also fosters a more connected and environmentally responsible community, differentiating us significantly from existing alternatives.
UI/UX design
Colour palette and its rationale
The color palette of our mobile application is designed to create a visually cohesive and user-friendly experience. We use a vibrant yellow (#F1C40F) as the primary color to highlight key actions and interactive elements, while a complementary turquoise (#1ABC9C) serves as the secondary color, adding balance and variety to the interface. A muted green (#46664B) is employed for tertiary actions, contributing to a calm and harmonious design. The background and surface colors are kept soft and neutral (#FFF8F0), ensuring a clean and uncluttered interface, while a strong red (#BA1A1A) is reserved for error states to immediately draw attention. This thoughtfully chosen palette ensures both aesthetic appeal and functional clarity, enhancing the overall user experience.
Fonts
We use Roboto Font. Roboto is a clean, modern sans-serif font that's highly legible on screens of all sizes. It provides a friendly and approachable feel, aligning with the app's user-centric design.
Icons
The philosophy behind using Google Material Icons is to maintain a clear, accessible, and visually consistent user interface. These icons are designed to be universally recognizable and minimalist, making them easy to understand and navigate for users of all technical levels. Google Material Icons follow the principles of Material Design, such as simplicity, functionality, and visual clarity. These icons provide a consistent and reliable user experience across platforms, which is importan in our app EcoBites, where users need to make quick decisions about purchasing and rescuing food, helping to prevent waste with intuitive and fast interactions.
