One of the recommendations that comes along with the Permanent Portfolio is to diversify. Obviously among the asset classes but also institutional and geographic. I'm not much of a world traveler so I will leave the geographic diversification for another time. Institutional diversification is manageable if you simply know to do it.

If you have holdings and split their investment across banks and investment houses (and physical locations), your chances of not being able to get at any of your funds decreases. Just like not putting all of your stock portfolio into a single stock (even through different brokerages), don't invest all of your funds through one brokerage or bank.

The PRB allows for tracking of your asset allocations across investment firms, your 401k, your bank CDs, mutual funds, savings and checking accounts, safety deposit boxes etc.
