Construction tips and tricks

Physically wiring the sensors together, into a suitable enclosure, is always a little tricky. There is no right or wrong way, but here are some tips and tricks.

This is a Draft - I am still working on it.

Notes to include

  • 4k7 on DS18B20
  • Voltage divider on battery sensors
  • Short headers
  • Multi-layer heat shrink
  • staggered junctions
  • Tool for wires
  • Velcro straps around battery
  • The new XH connectors I just found (if they work well)
  • Foam to pack
  • Velcro ties
  • A collection of images I plan on writing about ... IMG_0249 IMG_0250

Enclosures

There are two kinds of enclosures I've used. The first are small ABS boxes. I typically use this store but suitable boxes should be available locally,

Things to look for

  • fixing flange so it can be screwed or hung or ziptied easier
  • screws in 4 corners to ensure fits tightly on cables in notches (this is less common)

Alternatively, I use 40mm PVC pipe, with end caps. These should be available locally.

Notches

  • Bring cables out next to screws if box only screwed diagonal
