Problem/Research Statement

The presence of computer networking and other technical enhancements are becoming more and more prominent in the workplace. Large enterprises can afford to pay for the expensive networking bundles offered by corporations such as Cisco and Jupiter, but smaller businesses struggle in this regard. It's difficult for these companies to keep up to date with networking standards and practices as well as pay for professionals. The availability of an easy-to-follow guide to network planning and building could make the issue of networking on a budget much more simple.

Purpose Statement

The purpose of this project is to take the lessons learned during my cybersecurity program at Champlain College to test and collect data on open-source networking operating systems. A small startup company needs to plan its minimal secure network on a budget but doesn't know where to find the information they need. With access to this guide, they can plug in their needs, wants, and price points to find a few plans that could work for them. Once the hardware is purchased all they have to do is follow the relevant tutorials available and run the necessary scripts for startup configuration. The goal of this capstone is to make the stressful endeavor of computer networking a breeze for those with less experience.
