Economical Concerns & Implications

There is no doubt that the presence and discussion of bare-metal networking are and has been a trend for the past decade or so. With large networking equipment manufacturers dominating the market, people were bound to find workarounds. There are just some companies who can not afford the upfront and maintenance expenses that corporations such as Cisco demand. With the rise of white-box switching and open-source NOS these small enterprises can have a budget-friendly option that doesn't require any binding contracts or bundles. This is bound to cause some market disturbance for the bigger equipment manufacturers, so does this mean that the device manufacturers will be allowed to raise their prices as well? Or will more operating systems start seeing pay barriers?
