Extrude

The standard hotkey for Extrusion in Blender is E. By default, this uses a type of extrusion known as “Extrude Region”:

1-region

Other options are “Extrude Region (Vertex Normal)”:

2-region-vertex-normal

… and, “Extrude Individual Faces”:

3-individual-faces

Hotkey fix

Change default E hotkey to use Extrude Region (vertex normals).

  1. Go into edit mode on a mesh and open your tools palette in the 3d-View (T key). Select the “Extrude” sub-menu and right click on the word “Region”. Select “Remove Shortcut”:

  2. Select that same menu again, but this time right click on the term “Region (vertex normals)”. Select “Add Shortcut”:

  3. Hover your mouse cursor over the text input box and hit the E key. Don’t click on this box. If you click on it, it will set the hotkey to be the left mouse button, and you'll have to go into the User Preferences to restore the hotkey configuration so you can try again.
