Audio output under linux on the Fit-PC required some special tweaks.

The problem turned out to be to do with the HDA Intel Sound card on the FitPC. The fix was at [https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/PositionReporting] For us the fix was

editing the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file, and add

options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1
