The void bucket will destroy any liquid put into it. Scooping up water or lava will remove it from the world without filling up the bucket, allowing liquids to be removed infinitely. Normally the void bucket is capable of removing all forms of liquids, including non-source blocks. However, by holding shift when using it, it will begin to only remove source blocks.

As of version 2.0, the void bucket can now also destroy powder snow!
