City Map - mattyschell/nyc-spatial-rolodex GitHub Wiki
In New York City the City Map is a legal construct that represents the official map of the city. Like many New York City legal constructs the City Map is a fascinating and complicated topic.
This blog post covers the topic nicely:
https://nycitymap.wordpress.com/2016/03/25/what-is-the-city-map-of-new-york-city/
And here it is on the Wayback Machine in case that blog, which has been abandoned by the NYC Office of Technology and Innovation, disappears from the internet.
A self-described "elite" group at the New York City Office of Technology and Innovation also created something that they occasionally called the New York City Map or NYCMap. A local publication, the "The New Yorker," wrote about this.

Eventually the NYCMap concept evolved into a standard "kitchen sink" Geographic Information System web application NYCityMap that was mostly abandoned by around 2020.

Vendor ESRI and The NYC Office of Technology and Innovation rebuilt NYCityMap as NYCityMap 2.0. Here is 2023 a presentation from the project manager at ESRI:
