AStarLandmarks

On the options for routingalgorithms, what are the main features of AStarLandmarks? How does it differ from regular ASTAR (Anchor based Street and Traffic Aware Routing)?  When does one use AstarLandmarks (or FastAstarLandmarks) in Matsim?
