We're looking for people who'll work with us on creating online courses about web development & Pinegrow:
##1. Creating online course about how to build WordPress themes with Pinegrow
Pinegrow Web Editor is our desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux that lets web developers and designers work with HTML and CSS visually. Pinegrow also has a WordPress theme builder that is used to convert static HTML pages into WordPress themes. WordPress themes can also be build from scratch.
Check it out here: http://pinegrow.com/wordpress-theme-builder.html
We need an online course about how to use Pinegrow to create WordPress themes.
Target audience are people who can put together a static HTML site but don't know how to build a WP theme.
###Topics that should be covered:
- Introduction
- Hello World - build a simple WP theme from scratch (with site title, page menu, post(s) title and content). I think it is good idea to start the tutorial with this, because it will empower the user, show them that they can build a WP theme straight away. This theme can also be the foundation to build on through the rest of the course.
- File structure of a theme, header, footer,...
- Site title, description, link...
- The loop
- Article, post id, the title, the content...
- Template parts
- Side bar with search, categories, archive
- Adding comments to posts
- Featured images, galleries
- Links (to posts, site...)
- Conditionals
- Custom post types, custom WP_Query loop
- Nav menu, customising nav menu
- Multiple template pages (index.php, single.php), working with multiple pages in Pinegrow (master page, site content, apply master page)
- Using plugins (JetPack for example)
- Adding custom PHP code
All these features are supported by Pinegrow.
This is just a rough list. Feel free to suggest any other topic or structure that you feel would be useful for people.
We already have a tutorial on converting a single-page HTML site into a WP theme: http://pinegrow.com/docs/wordpress/convert-html-to-wordpress-theme.html
Compared to that, this course should be more systematic and in-depth, with more examples for each topic, useful not only for one site, but in general.
The course should come in two forms: screencast video with spoken English narration and text with annotated images. It should come with sample files and code examples (idea: various building blocks could be packaged as Pinegrow components that can be dragged to the page from the LIB panel).
###You'll need:
- experience with building WordPress themes
- experience with creating online courses
- the tone should be fun & easy-going
- fluent written and spoken English (while native speaker is preferred, it's not 100% required. At least the pronunciation should be very clear without hard-accent)
###How to apply:
We're believers in launching quickly and then iterating and improving.
So, when making your offer, please define what you could do in a time-frame of one week and give the cost estimate for that. This doesn't have to include everything from the above Topic list. It should cover as much as possible and be the foundation for adding more material and going more in-depth in the next stage(s). Be as specific as possible.
Please add samples of your work and links to your projects relevant to this, including samples of video tutorials with your voice.
Bonus points if you can send a sample featuring Pinegrow WordPress theme builder.
In case if it will be difficult to choose one offer we'll do a paid mini-project with a couple of people and then decide.
Download the trial version of Pinegrow from http://pinegrow.com. We'll provide the full license to chosen candidates.
We're looking for someone we can work with now and in the long-term future on creating educational material and supporting Pinegrow users. There's a lot more we want to do.
