Projects Index page

After logging in and clicking the top-level Projects link you will see a page showing the list of the projects that you can access, separated into projects that you originated, that you own, and projects owned by others that you can access. Eventually, as you create more projects or as others give you access to their projects, all those projects will be listed here (see, for example, the Project Site screenshot on the Overview Page). However, when you first start out, the projects list on this page will be empty:

On the top bar, on the right, are the help icon and the "User Actions" Menu, a pulldown. These will appear in this navigation bar on every page that has to do with projects.

The help button brings you these wiki pages.

Once you are logged in, your account name will appear in this upper right position on all pages of the web site. When you click on your user name, as indicated by the arrow drawn on the above screenshot, you get the user actions pull-down menu. This menu supports (1) Account Settings, where you can: changing your password, view your apikey, set your Globus User Name, Update the display name for your account, and annotate your affiliation, (2) Template Builder, where you can build, clone, edit your custom templates (3) Help, a link to these help pages (4) Release Note, a link to the latest release notes, (5) Build a Demo Project (see next section), and (6) Logout, to log out of your account in Materials Commons.

After you create a project, it will be listed on this project-list page. Clicking on any such project in the listed projects, will take you to the Project Summary page, see there for details.

The other actions that you can take on the Projects list page are to (1) create a project and (2) search projects. However before discussing those actions, lets look at how to create the demo project.

Create the Demo Project

The first time that you log in, you will see the empty Projects list page as shown above. On that you will see the button to "Add DemoProject" (see above). This button will appear each time you return to the main projects page, until you create the Demo Project, or click the checkbox "Don't show this again"; after which, the "Add Demo Project" Button will be hidden.

To create the demo project, simply click the button. You will see a message to the effect that creating the demo project takes a few seconds, after which, the screen will refresh and you will have a demo project. After a demo project has been created. The button will be hidden.

After you create the demo project, it will show up in your project list:

If you have (previously) created a demo project and/or have clicked the option to hide the button, you can still get to the action to create the demo project by using the "User Actions" pull down menu on the right side of the top bar; in that menu there is a item to create the demo project.

Creating the demo project more then once no effect on a complete demo project; doing so will not create a second demo project. However, if you select the "Build Demo Project" action again and if any part of the demo project has been deleted or altered, those parts of the normal demo project found to be missing will be restored to the existing demo project. Also, if the demo project has been delete, renamed, or removed, it will be recreated.

Create a new Project

To create a new project, click on the Create Project button. A Create Project panel will appear, as shown in this screenshot:

To create a new project, fill in the required Name and (optional) Description and click Submit. Click Cancel to cancel the request for a new project. Once you create a new project it will appear in the project list on this page, as so:

Each project row indicates a summary count of the Experiments ( Experiments count icon ), Samples ( Sample count icon ), Files ( File count icon ), Workflows ( Workflow count icon ), and Users. These artifacts will discussed in more detail in the section on the Experiment Pages

When you click on the Project name in the list, this opens a Project Page for that the project.
