ETL Using Drag and Drop - materials-commons/materialscommons.org GitHub Wiki
In the case that you wish to build an experiment description without using uploaded files you can use the Drag and Drop ETL potion of the Web User Interface.
Go to the materials commons site and log in. Find or create the project in which you wish to create the experiment. (In our demo case, here, we will start a new Demo Project). Open the project:
Click on the button "New Experiment Using ETL", and make sure that the "DRAG AND DROP" tab is selected (note the reminder: this is the case that files will not be uploaded, even if they are specified in the spreadsheet).
Fill in the Experiment name (required) and description if you wish (optional), then drag and drop the excel file into the drop area on the user interface. Or, if you wish, you can click in the box and use the system file dialog to open the Excel file.
Click "UPLOAD" and wait. Note, at the time of writing this documentation the upload using Drag and Drop is synchronous, that is there is no intermediate status, and you will see the "Loading..." message throughout the upload. If the upload is successful, you will a brief blue pop-up box in the upper right corner that says there was a successful upload and instructs you to click the "Sync" button. After you click the Sync button, in the left-side navigation panel, you will see the new experiment in the list of experiments.
