Item IDs
Unique Item IDs are crucial to correct functionality in COMP/CON. They are used to identify items in the database, and are referenced by other items, actions, and effects. If you are creating a new item, it is important to ensure that the ID is unique and does not conflict with any existing items, including those in the base game or other LCPs.
Longer IDs are preferred, as they are less likely to conflict with other items. It is also recommended to use a consistent naming convention for your IDs, such as using a prefix or suffix to indicate the item type or source. A recommended format is to use the following pattern:
{lcp-prefix}_{item_type}_{item_name}
But anything that can be reasonably guaranteed to be unique is acceptable. If you want to ensure unique IDs, you can use a UUID generator to create a unique ID for each item. This will ensure that there are no conflicts with other items in LCPs. A tool like https://www.uuidgenerator.net/version4 can be used to generate these UUIDs.
Removing Items from your LCP
Because COMP/CON loads all items from all LCPs, removing items from a distributed LCP will break non-instanced content that references them. If you are removing items from your LCP, it is recommended to use the new deprecation feature by setting a deprecated field to true in the item data, rather than deleting them entirely. This will prevent any issues with missing items, signal to your users that the item can be removed, and hide the item from the UI.
