A Guide to COMP CON = Pilot Roster = Creating a Pilot - massif-press/compcon GitHub Wiki

Creating a pilot in COMP/CON is a straightforward guided process, and allows you to quickly generate your pilots! You have the option of using pre-generated templates for your pilot and mech, or building your own custom pilot profile from scratch and adding your mech later on.

Getting Started

It is useful to have a few things ready to go when creating a pilot. You will want a general idea of what you want your pilot to be, what abilities you want your pilot to have, a short biography and description of your pilot, and an image of some sort to use for your pilot's appearance. None of these are required but they will help speed up the pilot creation process!

To start out, head to the Pilot Roster page. From there, click on the [Create New Pilot] button. This will start the wizard for pilot creation.

You may move to any step in the process by clicking the name of that step in the top of the Pilot Creation wizard. Completed steps will show up with a green checkmark.

NOTE The choices made in the pilot creation wizard are not final. You can alter any choices made after completing the wizard by going directly to the pilot roster and editing the pilot.

IMPORTANT If you exit the pilot creation wizard at any point before the final confirmation and save step, you will lose all progress on pilot creation. Be sure to complete the entire wizard in order to make sure your pilot is saved!

Step 1: Identification

After clicking the [Create New Pilot] button, you will be presented with Identification step. Here we can input our pilot's general information, appearance, and background. Items marked with a red <!> triangle are required.

  • Name <!>: Enter a name for your pilot. You can click on the die icon to have one randomly generated for you.
  • Callsign <!>: Enter a callsign for your pilot. You can click on the die icon to have one randomly generated for you.
  • Background: Enter a background for your pilot. Clicking on the globe icon will present you with a list and descriptions of the default backgrounds provided in the LANCER core rulebook. You may also type in any custom background; make sure to check with your GM first!
  • Biography: Enter a biography about your pilot. It is recommended to type this up separately, then paste it in when you create your pilot.
  • Description: Enter a description of your pilot. It is recommended to type this up separately, then paste it in when you create your pilot.
  • Pilot Image: Upload a picture of your pilot. You may select an external resource, or choose from an included library of pilot images.

Optional Character Templates

After you have filled out the Identification page in the wizard, you have two choices; to continue in the wizard, or to use a pre-built character template.

  • If you wish to continue with pilot creation as normal, please click [Continue] in the lower right and proceed to Step 2: Skills.
  • If you wish to select a pre-built character template, continue reading!

Pre-built character templates are recommended for players who are new to LANCER, or for players who have a general idea of what they want and just need a baseline of selected options to later customize.

Click on [Select Character Template] to open up the character template list. You may select from any of the presented templates in the window. Expanding them will show you the specific skills, talents, mech skills, and mech configurations with loadouts that will be automatically generated for you.

Once you have selected a template, click the green [Continue] button in the lower right, and proceed to Step 5: Confirmation.

Step 2: Skills

On this page you will select 4 skills for your pilot to start off with. Skills are used in narrative play, and affect your chance at doing something successfully...or not!

Each skill has a drop down with the description of the skill. To add it to your pilot, click on the [+] button to the right of the skill. To remove a skill, click on the [-] button.

Once you have decided on your 4 skills, scroll down and click the green [Continue] button to move on to Talents.

Step 3: Talents

On this page you will select 3 talents for your pilot. Talents enhance what you can do do with your mech and its weapons, systems, or abilities, and are used in combat scenarios.

Talents are selected by unlocking them, which will add them to the list on the left side.

Once you have decided on your 3 talents, scroll down and click the green [Continue] button to move on to Mech Skills.

Step 4: Mech Skills

On this page you will spend 2 Mech Skill points into four possible categories. These skills directly affect your mech's baseline statistics: Hull, Agility, Systems, and Engineering (also known as HASE).

To add points to a skill, click the [+] button. To remove points from a skill, click the [-] button.

Once you have spent your two mech skill points, scroll down and click the green [Continue] button to move on to the Confirm step.

Step 5: Confirm

This step will give you an overview of your pilot, including all skills, talents, and mech skills selected. If you are missing any part of the wizard, it will present a list of items that you need to finish before you can confirm.

If everything is filled out, then you can click the [Register New Pilot // [callsign] (pilot name)] button on the bottom of the screen, which will then finish the wizard and add the Pilot to your roster.
