System restore
At times, problems may arise with the operating system (OS) that cannot be resolved with standard troubleshooting. When this occurs, one of the most effective fixes may be to go back to an earlier state where the OS was working properly. In Windows, that is called a system restore. It returns the OS to that state where the registry, software and drivers were known to be working, typically before an update made things go wrong. A system restore requires having a restore point saved, so it is a best practice to create save points frequently. In Windows, the system restore function is accessed through the control panel. Points can be save and reverted to from this application.
