Using With sane airscan , eSCL or VueScan - markosjal/AirScan GitHub Wiki

The page below and the project(s) on these pages are no longer being maintained here. The AirScan Project mentioned is now available in a new form at http://scannershare.com. The Scanning Web GUI has been removed to simplify use and set - up, and it is now called AirScanS400W and runs on Linux and MacOS . It makes the scanner not only available to the local machine but to all devices that can use an eSCL compatible scanner on the network. see http://scannershare.com for more info.

AirScan and sane-airscan are two unrelated projects however there are benefits of using them both together on a linux machine. The main benefit is giving you SANE compatibility for your s400w scanner. XSane Simple Scan For users with OSX or Windows systems too, you may want to try using this software with VueScan. Vuescan is a commercial product and beyond the scope of this Wiki. VueScan

AirScan (this project) will support your s400w scanner and work as a basic eSCL Protocol converter, allowing the host to translate commands between the scanner and eSCL protocol on your network.

There are free and commercial programs such as sane-airscan and VueScan that will detect the Scanner/Host computer running AirScan's eSCL and use the scanner for any computer on the network. Vuescan runs on OSX, Windows, or Linux. V9.6.41 Linux testsed, as well as similar Windows version..

sane-airscan is a SANE back-end that uses an eSCL protocol scanner (or this project, AirScan). More info and downloads: https://github.com/alexpevzner/sane-airscan. The two work together to give you a SANE back-end for these scanners. Together these two packages will give you SANE compatibility for the s400w scanners supported by AirScan. This package alone AirScan will give you only eSCL compatibility and a web GUI for your s400w Scanner.

It is highly recommended that you first get AirScan (this project) working by way of the Web GUI , before trying to implement sane-airscan or Vuescan.

When using with VueScan, or SANE you should turn on the scanner and wait several seconds for it to connect before opening the scanning app. XSane will not open if the the scanner is not detected , and Simple Scan will appear to load but will not scan even once the scanner becomes available. Simple Scan would need to be restarted. This is because when the scanner is powered off, the software is not responding to eSCL.
