CFW: Custom Firmware. Software created by third parties to gain access to device features or creates new features.
GUI: Pronounced "goo-ee". A GUI is a graphical user interface. We use a GUI to launch your Switch into RCM. Instead of sending commands to your Switch, we use a dialog on your computer, also known as a GUI.
Jig: A jig is a small clip that slides onto your right Joycon rail. When inserted, it will ground a pin on the device and allow you to enter RCM.
OS: Operating System. An operating system is software that manages hardware, resources, and other software on a device. Horizons OS is the default OS for a Switch. We install Atmosphere to use as our CFW OS
Payload: Binary files that are sent to your Switch while in ReCoveryMode (RCM). These files tell your Switch to launch in CFW before the official Switch Operating System ("OS") launches.
RCM: ReCoveryMode. A mode for your Switch that lets Nintendo technical support repair software failures. We use it to launch your Switch into Atmosphere OS.
