As of now, consider using the tx9s. It is currently available and cheaper than the x96. The only reason I could buying a x96 is the size of the board (being the smallest) or you go a great deal on one.

I like the x96 mini, others don't as it has gotten a bad name for itself due to flashing issues. Multiple versions are floating around, some can be flashed and some can't - reference the data at the end of this page. The a95x f1 does not seem to suffer this issue, so has become the preferred device for some.

My first ATV purchased was a x96 mini. I currently have 32 in my build with no bad ones. I have 4 x95x f1 that I found on a great deal on Amazon, currently collecting dust but were used as backup devices that I utilized for scanning while doing the build.

Why I prefer the x96 versus a95x:

  1. Aestetics - it just looks better
  2. Cooling - air can actually get into the case
  3. RJ-45 - easy to remove, a95x is a pain in the arse
  4. Doesn't have mac address problems of the a95x
  5. Size - it is more compact than a95x
  6. Connections - can lead to a cleaner install with RJ-45 and power plug right next to each other

Mac address method

  1. i don't hold stock in this method as 100% effective. as suppliers and makers are known to swap things around to deceive folks in order to make sales, just open the box and check for actual version. sort of looking at a picture of someone and seeing crazy eyes. no matter it appeals to you externally, sometimes you just have to see crazy in person to verify.

  2. He has been unable to flash the device as of 2021-04-20

  4. Do your homework, best to avoid this version until someone gets a successful flash and integration into a working MAD setup
