Evidence and Conclusion Data Model - m0smith/topoged GitHub Wiki

Evidence Model
The evidence model stores the information on people and relationships exactly as listed in the Source cited.
Conclusion Model
The conclusion model stores information in:
A Conclusion represents a conclusion reached by a Researcher. Each researcher can reach different conclusions. Researchers can comment on other contributors conclusions, can borrow from them but may not change them. This will allow different researchers to come to their own conclusions and see their own version without impacting other researchers.
A Conclusion will also have a rational in the form of a comment thread on the conclusion.
A Conclusion can also be marked as "Dis proven" allowing a researcher to note that a conclusion is wrong and why. This will help in the future when a researcher may come across a similar situation and not remember why.
There are several types of Conclusions.
- A Member is a Conclusion that states a Persona is part of an Individual.
- An Accept Conclusion allows one contributor to accept the conclusion of another contributor
- An Inference represents a Conclusion that can be reached based on the data itself. The standardization algorithms will create Inferences. .
The Individual is a summary of the conclusions of a researcher. The Individual has reference to a Researcher and a set of attribute types and values. Each attribute represents the "preferred" value for that attribute from the conclusions.

Evidence Versus Conclusion
Evidence and Conclusion are are the central documents to the topoged Data Model. The Evidence documents hold the information as it is contained in the source. This information includes all the people mentioned in the source, all the groups they belong to and any events mentioned. Evidence is simply the data found in the source without judgement, correction or prejudice.
The Conclusion model holds the inferences and conclusions that are made from the Evidence. Conclusions are where people and groups from different sources are merged into Individuals and Relationships. From a marriage record a family Relationship is formed. Then from a birth certificate a child is added to the family Relationship. There are two Group records create, one from the marriage and one from the birth. A single family Relationship is created that references both Groups. One advantage is that this allows the Groups to remain intact if it is later determined that the child is not part of the family.
Take for example a marriage licence:

Events
There are 2 Event Documents defined in this document: a marriage license issued and a marriage performed.
Marriage License Issued
There are 3 people mentioned in the first event so three corresponding Persona Documents are created, namely the groom, the bride and the clerk.
