Data Export - lz1asl/CaveSurvey GitHub Wiki
Export
Once the data from CaveSurvey is collected (internally kept in SQL database) it should be exported to be used at home. The export process is mentioned in the User Guide and the default output format is Microsoft Excel .xls.
Microsoft Excel
Survey data can be exported to .xls files either explicitly or from the automated backups. Such data can be also manipulated and imported back as new survey.
Excel Data Format
The data format shape:
-
First row is a header with the following cells :
From
andTo
are sequentially named by the gallery (like 'A0' and 'B1'), middle point ('[email protected]') or vector ('A2-A3-v1')Length
,Compass
andClinometer
plus the measurement unit configured for the project (like 'Length - meters')Left
,Right
,Up
andDown
measurements with the same unit as theLength
aboveNote
in case user text was enteredLatitude
,Longitude
,Altitude
andAccuracy
in case the point has GPS coordinateDrawing
andPhoto
if present. The value is the relative path to the image on the file system and represents a hyperlink for easier access
-
Rows are generated for each leg, middle point and vector. Legs with middle points are split into smaller legs.
Data Import in Desktop Tools
Once in Excel format, measurements should be pretty easy to manipulate, and also to import it in other tools. The other options are the integrations with OpensTopo and Visual Topo that support further formats
OpensTopo
OpensTopo is a web application that allows easy data entry, visualization and export to Google Earth kml, AutoCad dxf, svg or Therion from within CaveSurvey. For convenience it is simplified and embedded into CaveSurvey so all these exports can be performed offline. Note that the project seems to be unmaintained and there are some existing bugs.
Visual Topo
Visual Topo is Windows application (also runs under Wine on Linux) with many calculation, visualization and export options. CaveSurvey can export to .tro file and Visual Topo can further produce DXF, PCX5, GPX, KML, SHP and SVG. It is worth to mention that:
- the automatic magnetic inclination calculation is enabled for the generated .tro files
- in order to import the entrance UTM coordinates the zone need to be present under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ConversApi\Convers\Coordonnées
, for example for zone 34 will look like this:
