Reapers are a special class of Psychopomp. Also known as Grim, they are death personified. Skeletons, armed with scythes, who cut off people’s lives as if harvesting grain. Their task is to end the lives of the living, before they are conducted by Psychopomps to The Great Beyond.

Like Psychopomps, they cannot actually visit the mortal realm, although they can affect mortals who are close to death. Unseen by the living, Reapers see to it that those who are destined for death meet their timely end, drawing their souls into The Crossroads. Beyond this, Reapers act as overseers to Psychopomps, ensuring that the Psychopomp completes his duties. As explained earlier, when a Psychopomp has successfully fulfilled his role, conducting a set number of souls to The Great Beyond, he transcends. Through transcendence, he becomes a Reaper, and only when he finally completes his Reaper duties can he finally become Departed.
