We have explored several accounts when significant areas that held knowledge were destroyed by human intervention, the contents forever lost to time. The reasons for such destruction varied from political suppression to casualties of war. Government leaders felt threatened by scholars, discoveries shook the world of academics to its core, and great structures that housed a wealth of knowledge were viewed as symbols of power. As the old saying goes, "Knowledge is power". An interesting point one may have noticed was the material utilized to keep all records such as the papyrus scrolls, clay tablets, and thin slips of bamboo. While the clay tablets had the longest lifespan, they were still prone to erosion. To date, the surviving documents left behind were engraved in the structures that were thought to be lost.
