« 00270 | Issues | 00272 »

Summary: allow dsp_manager to run without requiring an X display

Created: 2010–08–24 12:29

Status: Released

Category: Request

From: clholtz

Version: 2.1

Released_In: 2.2

Description:

Some facilities want to run the manager on servers that don't run X. This is a request for a mod to the dsp_manager process so that it does not try to open a DISPLAY.

Comments

brad August 24, 2010, at 5:04 PM: The new command line options (to dsp_manager) are "-notcltk" and "-tcltk" which removes or adds a tcltk interpreter to the manager, the default remains that one is included.

frankie August 25, 2010, at 05:24 PM: Since all of our development environment is now at tcl/tk 8.5, to make a dsp_manager executable compatible with 2.0 or 2.1 we had to revert back to tcl 8.3. Brad did this and we compiled a version of this executable in case there are facilities that want this as a patch to an older release and can't wait until EDGE 2.2 is available. Please understand that very little testing was done on this executable with EDGE v2.1 and no testing was done on EDGE v2.0. Test before you deploy!!! I've attached the executable (only to be used as a hotfix for 2.0 and 2.1), here.
