00145: adding light to the dark side of the earth

Summary: adding light to the dark side of the earth

Created: 2009–04–23 23:55

Status: Released

Category: Request

From: frankie

Version: 2.0

Released_In: 2.1

Description:

some of the engineering sims require that they can see the earth a bit (so that they can see the background motion) but still have a night side to see the transitions.

This is a request for some documentation showing the appropriate way to add some light to the dark side of the planet, or a set of defaults that lighten up the dark side.

Adding an emission property to the earth layers will do this, but it seems to affect the day time colors as well, which is undesirable.

Comments

frankie April 05, 2010, at 09:04 AM: This is lessened in the 2.1 release since we now have the city lights map, but since this wasn't what the issue actually requests, I'm going to leave it open.

frankie April 05, 2010, at 09:18 AM: Issue 00147 was requesting more ambient light anyway, so modifying the shader to increase the ambient term seems to help here, so I am going to close this. See Issues.00147 for more info.
