Using This Wiki - lloyddavis/ckop GitHub Wiki

A couple of people have reported having problems editing pages or having their account flagged especially when they've just made a new account. If you've just got your github account and you try to edit a page but it won't save, please e-mail [email protected] to explain what's happening.

If this is your first time working with a wiki, or even if you just don't use them every day you might need a little help.

A wiki is a collection of webpages that anyone can create, edit or change.

Anyone can read this wiki, but as it's hosted on github.com you will need to sign up for an account in order to be able to write or change anything. It's a simple process, similar to the many other platforms you've doubtless signed up to.

If you click on a red link on any page that will automatically create a new page and take you to an writing window. If you want to edit anything on an existing page you'll find a grey "Edit" button at the top right at the same level as the page title next to a green "New Page" button.

Remember that you're writing collaboratively, please respect other people's writing and remember that in a mixed group people may have different levels of comfort and ability in expressing themselves verbally. Equally, don't be too disturbed if someone changes what you've written, if you disagree you can edit the page again yourself to reflect this.

You should be able to copy and paste text from an existing document into the editing window but you might lose some formatting. There is a toolbar at the top that provides buttons to apply most formatting that you'll need. And at the right hand end of the toolbar there is a button with a question mark on it for extra help if you need it.

Above the toolbar is a tab marked "Preview", if you click on this you'll see the text formatted as it will be when published.

When you've finished writing, there's a "Save Page" button at the bottom (you might have to scroll down to see it. There's also a text box for you to optionally describe what you've just done. All versions are retained once they've been saved, so we have a history and can revert changes if necessary.

If you think something's wrong or missing on this page, or you could express it better, or if you'd like to leave a request for an explanation that you think would be helpful, please do edit the page and improve the experience for everyone!
