Destinations - lkstanwyck/SpaceApps2021 GitHub Wiki
Overview
Each destination will features to setup for the right side of the board. This setup will be inspired by important science targets at each destination. There will be 16 Mission cards specific to each Destination.
Destination tiles
Not all Destinations are included in the base game. There will be expansions.
- Mercury: landing, collecting materials, mapping terrain
- Venus: toxic atmosphere contents, air pressure topography, exploring the surface (volcano, "recent" resurfacing, etc), backwards rotation
- Mars: terraforming mars including missions around growing plants, creating healthcare, creating living quarters, mining for resources, using rovers to search and sample, preparing habitats
- Saturn: rings, moons for life
- Pluto: exploring the orbit, set up outpost for exoplanet research
- Jupiter: 4 Galilean Moons, surface gas movements
- Asteroid Belt: mining asteroids, advancing auto-navigation by fly throughs
- Exoplanets
- The Sun: exploring solar power/sail, solar flairs and other inspiration/mission objectives of the Parker Solar Probe.
Jupiter
Jupiter specific tiles are found at the bottom of this page
Planet tile
A beautiful image of Jupiter on the front with fun facts and specific information on the back. Jupiter missions involve studying the movement of the gaseous outer layer, the Great Red Spot, magnetic fields, the Great Blue spot, and more!
Moon tiles
Jupiter has 4 moons considered to be critical science targets by NASA: IO, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto. Each of these moons, and Jupiter itself, will be a tiles for players to place as they like in the Destination area of the board. The fronts of these tiles feature images from Ring-Moon Systems Node of NASA's Planetary Data System Information and the backs will have facts gathered from NASA's Solar System Exploration website. To see the drafted tiles please see the wiki section titled Jupiter Destination Tiles.
Jupiter specific cards/items
Each moon will have 2 missions and there will be 8 general Jupiter missions. The Mission cards associated with a moon requires the player to go to that moon. The player will go to Jupiter for the other missions. Below is a proposed list of Jupiter specific missions. Drafted missions can be found in the Mission Cards section.
- Europa: drill for ice samples and measure ice thickness; underwater probe for ocean samples and measure temperature of water
- Io: collect volcanic plume samples for composition and measure heights of plumes; study lava lakes
- Callisto: create a topographical map of craters; collect rock samples from different craters
- Ganymede: measure magnetic field; photograph the auroras
- Jupiter: collect gaseous samples and track patterns of movement; fly around and take pictures of the non-featured moons; outward pictures from all around Jupiter; send probes deep into the planet; study Jupiter's red dot storm and wind speeds; 6; 7; 8
