Target Sense

• The most basic and generic intransitive verb for laughing.
• Avoid terms for merely smiling, grinning or smirking, that do not involve audible laughter.
• Provide the most generic, non-specific term, and avoid narrower terms in any sense.
  • Avoid terms stressing some specific form of laughter, e.g. particularly loud, surprised, prolonged, hysterical, etc..
  • Avoid terms that are specifically intensifying, e.g. roar (with laughter).
  • Avoid terms specific to disrespectful, suppressed or quiet laughter, e.g. giggle, snigger.
