As game-players are advancing through your game and completing different tasks, make sure to reward them. Well crafted and well implemented rewards will keep players interested in your game and will motivate them to keep coming back for more.

You can reward game-players in various different ways. According to Schell (2008), here are some of the more common rewards used in video games:

  • Praise: Tell them “Good job!” through on screen text or special sound effects or animations.
  • Points: Give them points. Consider giving higher points for taking on particularly difficult challenges.
  • Powers: Give them boosts in power (extra speed, special weapons, etc.).
  • Resources: Give them extra resources (food, money, etc.).

You can use different combinations of rewards in your game, but you'll have to spend some time figuring out how to place these rewards within your game and when and how players should actually receive them. Watch the following video to learn more about creating rewards for your game:
