The Game Design Canvas, created by Ari Bancale, is a lightweight approach to collaboratively thinking through your game design. As we're following an iterative, incremental process, it is best to "travel light." That is, just document as much as needed - no more, no less. A canvas is a great tool for guiding thinking and ideation and it also serves as documentation.

The Game Design Canvas incorporates the MDA Framework to help capture ideas from both game development and game playing perspectives. Note that the "aesthetics" component of the framework is broken down into more fine-grained aspects of thinking about the emotional responses we're seeking to generate through game play.
