Requirements

To add a vCenter cluster as target, you need to complete the following requisites:

  • Administrator credentials on the vCenter cluster.
  • Administrator access over Turbonomic platform.
  • Communication through 80, 443 TCP (for monitoring), 7443, 10443 TCP (for tags), 88 TCP (for kubernetes) ports bidirectional from Turbonomic server to vCenter IP address.

Service account

In case that you want to use a service account for the Turbonomic target, that account needs these permissions.

To monitor usage and obtain recommendations, you need at least the three first rights, Read-only for all entity types and Browse Datastore permissions.

VMWare target configuration Once you have the service account, it's time to configure your target in Turbonomic. You have to repeat this process for each vCenter.

  1. Login to the Turbonomic portal, using admin credentials.
  2. In the left side, click on Settings

  1. In the Turbonomic Settings Windows, click on Target Configuration

  1. At top-right, click on New Target button
  2. In the Choose Target Category, click on Hypervisor

  1. In the Choose Target Type windows, click on vCenter

  1. Enter the IP address or FQDN for the vCenter cluster, username and password, generated before. If your vSphere version is 6.5RU3+, it's recommended to mark Enable guest metrics (vSphere 6.5RU+), and click ADD.

  1. Wait until the validation process ends (green bar in the left) or check for errors (clicking in the arrow at the right). In case you need to edit/change this target, you can click on the name of the target and you will see the target configuration again.
