I found the FOSS lesson on git and version control incredibly useful. I had only used git through GitHub but didn't understand that you could use install the git software on almost any platform. I think this will be very helpful for when I am writing code and trying to get programs to work so that I can backtrack when things end up breaking or not working. The lesson also highlighted the point that the notes you add when committing is what makes version control so useful. It was also nice to do some hands-on things utilizing Vice.
