Journal Entry Week 6 20221003 - klmartinez/DSF GitHub Wiki

As part of Journal Club we discussed the topic of lab contracts with the following readings:

I found that the GenoPhenoEnvo Governance and Operations Manual and the Lab Social Contract - Schloss Lab to be most helpful and are documents I wish our own lab would do to make expectations more clear.

During our weekly challenge we were asked to review a Data Science Fellows Fall 2022 Expectations Agreement and to add any of our own edits or make comments on it. Generally speaking, we had thoughts about having expectations be made more clear and all DSF documentation (including schedules, assigned readings, assigned "homeworks", lecture slides, etc.) be easily accessible on some sort of centralized website or GitHub repo.

With respect to FOSS, here are this week's lesson's plan, HackMD notes, and video recording. We primarily focused on Documentation and Communication which I found very informative, but there isn't a way for me to implement these best practices in our own lab due to not everyone having the same level of computer literacy.

As part of FOSS, I also learned how to create a website from GitHub. My professional website can now be found at klmartinez.github.io.

Ideally, I think our lab would benefit from a lab website that hosts documents such as a governance document, and I believe me would benefit from communicating on SLACK.
