Customising your profile - kl3mta3/Maplecord GitHub Wiki
Customising your profile
Your profile is what people see when they click your name: your picture and banner, what you are called, a few lines about you, and whatever you choose to wear. All of it is free.
Opening the editor
Any of these opens Edit profile:
- Click your own name at the bottom left, then Edit profile.
- Press the cog at the bottom left to open Settings, then My account, then Edit profile.
- Right-click yourself anywhere, then Edit profile.
The right side of the editor shows a live preview of your profile card and of a line of chat.
Pictures, your own animations and your server tag change the moment you choose them. Everything else changes when you press Save changes.
What you can set
| Field | What it is | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Display name | What people see. Your username (@name) is the one you chose when you signed up: you cannot change it, though whoever runs the server can. | 32 characters |
| Pronouns | Optional. | 40 characters |
| About me | A few lines about you. | 190 characters |
| Picture | PNG, JPEG, WebP or an animated GIF. | 2 MB |
| Banner color | A colour for the top of your card, used when you have no banner picture. Pick a preset or any colour. | |
| Banner picture | PNG, JPEG, WebP or an animated GIF. | 4 MB |
| Name font | Default, Script, Pixel, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Comic, Spooky, Marker, Rounded, Terminal or Blackletter. | |
| Name effect | How your name is drawn: Solid, Gradient, Neon, Toon, Pop, Jelly, Spectrum, Outline, Shadow, Glitch, Chrome, Aurora or Shimmer. Neon, Pop, Jelly, Spectrum, Glitch, Chrome, Aurora and Shimmer move: all the time on your profile, and in a chat or a member list while the pointer is on the name. The list shows each one on your own name. Under it are that effect's colours, an angle for the ones that have a direction, and ready-made sets of colours. In a server, a role's colour takes its place. | |
| Avatar decoration | An animation drawn around your picture. | |
| Nameplate | Drawn behind your name in member lists, friends lists and conversation lists. See below. | |
| Server tag | A server's tag to wear beside your name. | |
| Profile effect | An animation that plays over your profile card. |
For how big to make a picture or banner, see Designing animations and pictures.
Decorations and effects
Each has two sources.
- Maplecord's own. Pick one from the list. Some let you swap their colours: a row called Its colors appears with a picker for each, and Back to its own colors undoes it.
- Your own. Press Upload your own and choose a Lottie file (
.lottieor.json). It then appears in the list as Yours. Replace your own swaps it, and Remove yours takes it away.
The short version of the rules for your own:
- A decoration is square. An effect is the shape of a profile card, 300 × 420, or tick Fill and crop to use another shape.
- A decoration can be up to 50 KB and an effect up to 100 KB, made of drawn shapes only: no pictures, text, sound or video.
- An effect has no background, hides at most 35% of the card at once, and leaves nothing sitting over your picture and name.
The full rules and how to design for them are in Designing animations and pictures. If a file is refused, the app says which rule it broke.
In lists, a decoration only moves while the pointer is on it. On your profile it always moves.
Nameplates
A nameplate is drawn behind your name in member lists, friends lists and the list of conversations. It fades in from the left, so your name stays easy to read, and gets a little stronger while the pointer is on it.
- Maplecord's own. Aurora, Ember, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, Galaxy, Sakura, Neon, Gold, Frost, Storm or Candy. Pick one and press Save changes.
- Your own. Press Upload your own under the nameplates and choose a PNG, JPEG, WebP or animated GIF, up to 256 KB. Wide works best, like 600 × 100; the left side fades out behind your name. It is worn as soon as it is uploaded, and stays in the list as Yours if you pick another. Remove yours deletes it.
The preview beside the editor shows how you look in a list.
Your emojis, stickers and sounds
Settings, Emojis & sounds lists the custom emojis, stickers and sounds you uploaded, and how many servers each is on. You can rename one, or delete it: that takes it off every server it is on. New ones are uploaded in a server's settings (see Servers and channels). This is only there when whoever runs the Maplecord has switched them on.
Server tags
A server tag is the small badge beside a name: a symbol and up to five letters that say which server someone belongs to. Clicking one shows which server it is.
To wear one: in Edit profile, choose it under Server tag. You can wear one tag at a time, and it shows beside your name everywhere. A server appears in the list if it has a tag and your roles there let you wear it. Leaving the server takes the tag off.
To give your server one: see Servers and channels.
A different name in one server
A nickname is what you are called in one server only.
- Click the server's name at the top of the channel list, then Change nickname.
- Or right-click yourself, then Change nickname on that server.
It can be up to 32 characters. Leave it empty to go back to your display name.
In the same box, Hide my role color on this server keeps your name in your own color and effect there, instead of the color of your role. Everyone in that server sees it that way.
Your colours
Settings, then Appearance: pick one of the themes, or Custom to make your own. Custom starts from the theme you had and lets you change each of its colours: window, panels, boxes, raised parts, borders, text, quiet text and both accents. If the text gets hard to read on your colours, it says so. Themes are kept on your device only.
Copy theme code puts the theme you are using on the clipboard as a short code of letters and digits. Paste a code into Paste a theme code on another device, or give it to a friend, and Use it makes that theme your Custom one. A code that was cut short or mistyped is refused.
Under Saved themes you can keep up to 30 themes on a device, each under a name: type a name and Save keeps the theme you are using. Use puts one back, Copy copies its code, and saving under a name that is already there replaces it.
Status
Settings, then Status & privacy, or click your name at the bottom left:
- Online
- Idle: you appear away.
- Do not disturb: no sounds or desktop notifications.
- Invisible: you appear offline to everyone.
While you are on Online, other people see you as idle by itself after 10 minutes without using the keyboard or mouse, and as online again as soon as you do. In the desktop app that means anywhere on your computer, so playing a game with Maplecord behind it does not make you idle. In a browser it means in Maplecord. Being in a voice channel or a call counts as being there. With Maplecord open on several devices, you are idle only when all of them are.
Linked accounts
Settings, then Connections, lets you link an account you have on another service to show that its name is yours. Which services are offered depends on the Maplecord server you are signed in to.
- Press Link, finish in your browser at that service, and come back.
- On my profile decides whether people see it. Profiles show the first three, with the rest behind a button.
- Link again updates it if the name there has changed. Unlink removes it.
Maplecord keeps that account's name and ID and nothing else. Linking is not signing in. A Battle.net name is removed after 30 days unless you link it again; the app shows the date.
Your friend link
On the Friends screen, Your friend link is an address of your own. Anyone who opens it can ask to be your friend, and you still say yes or no.
- Copy copies the link.
- QR code shows it as a code to scan, with two choices beside it:
- QR is how the code itself is drawn: Leaf, thin border, Leaf, no border, Leaf with a square or Plain square. They are all the same link. If something has trouble reading a leaf, use the plain square.
- Card puts the code on a card with your name on it: Name below, Maplecord on top, Wide or Pill. Your name is drawn in the font and colours from your profile, with your @username. None is the code by itself. Any card works with any of the four looks.
- Save as a picture saves exactly what is showing, to put on a profile elsewhere, a stream or a poster.
- Make a new link stops the old link and code working. Friends you already have stay.
