What I Enjoyed

  • Setting up and using my local and staging enviornments. Only the PM gets to deploy features to production.
  • Writing code against a really robust test suite. This makes me feel safe to make changes.
  • Fancy pairing stations!
  • Working with Martha and Peter. They are both generous, kind and answered all my questions
  • Giving myself time to 'Understand the Problem' of each story. I didn't write any code until I could explain verbally, and in writing, what I was trying to create or change.
  • Working on the backend with server-rendered templates.
  • Working with Peter to debug the font-awesome gem by looking at the library code.
  • Completing some 1-point stories by myself.
  • Watching Martha use gitX to amend commits

What I Disliked

  • Pairing without a time constraint.
  • Not understanding who the user stories are written for

Questions

  • For Steve: How did you decide which stories need to be written and how they are prioritized?
  • Why doesn't Murph work in the software office?

In the Future

  • I'd like to pull some stories off the tracker and deliver them
  • Get other gNERDs to rotate on the team for the professional development opportunity and so that when the members of the team move on to other jobs, there are people at the company that know about the different products and code bases.
