Snorting-Code, a SOEN 390 Project
Project Overview
The Snorting-Code SOEN 390 Project focuses on the development of a mobile application designed to improve the navigation for Concordia University's campuses: Loyola Campus and Sir George Williams (SGW) Campus.
The application aims to provide clear, real-time direction to help students, faculty, and visitors easily navigate between campuses, buildings, classrooms, and other key locations. This app seeks to improve overall campus experience, reduce confusion and travel time, particularly for users who are unfamiliar with Concordia's layout.
Purpose and Motivation
Navigating a large university with multiple campuses can be challenging, especially for new students, visitors, or individuals attending events in unfamiliar buildings. Existing map tools do not fully address the need for campus-specific navigation, indoor directions, and seamless transitions between campuses.
This project addresses that gap by providing a campus-focused navigation solution that combines detailed campus maps with real-time location tracking to guide users efficiently and reliably to their destinations.
Target Users
The application is design for:
- Concordia University students
- Faculty and staff
- Visitors attending classes, meetings, or campus events
Team Overview
Our team consists of 11 software engineering students with experience across:
- Mobile application development
- UI/UX design
- Backend systems
- Software testing and quality assurance
The team is structured into featured-focused sub-teams, which allows it to have a balanced workload distribution and efficient development. This structure supports steady progress while maintaining the code's quality.
Key Features
The features for this application includes:
-
Navigation from Current Location to Campus Users can receive directions to either campus from their current location, whether traveling by foot, bike, or public transportation.
-
Campus-to-Campus Navigation The app provides detailed guidance for traveling between Loyola and SGW campuses.
-
Intra- and Inter-Building Directions Once on campus, users can navigate to specific buildings, classrooms, offices, or facilities with precise directions.
Vision
By integrating detailed campus maps with real-time navigation, the application aims to streamline campus mobility, reduce stress, and promote accessibility. Whether users are heading to a class, an office meeting, or a campus event, the app helps them reach their destination efficiently and confidently.
